Second session on Saturday, June 14, 2008. Finally let me pass after 1-3/4 laps. Both the BMW driver and I are advanced, high-performance driving instructors. The RX-8 is completely stock except for a B&B muffler and Hawk HP Plus pads on the front. It does not have traction control or stability control. Tires are original stock street Potenzas. No doubt the M5 is stock too, and this has more to do with weight than horsepower. Camera is a Creative Labs Vado cheapcorder stuck to the windshield with a suction cup cellphone holder. Video was recorded upside-down due to the mount, and was transcoded to rotate it. Quality suffered.

Common questions: Q: How long did it take to get your M17x? A: Approximately 3 weeks. Dell predicted it would take 4 weeks because the WUXGA 1980x1200 screen was on backorder, though it came one week earlier than that. Q: What does the ship date mean? A: As far as I can tell, that is when the M17x will leave Dell to be shipped to you. I don't think this is the predicted arrival date of your M17x. Q: How is it? A: It's great! I did run into some problems when upgrading from Vista to Windows 7, though almost all of those issues disappeared when I did a clean install of Windows 7. Other than that, it plays games amazingly, and it is beautiful of course. When you bring it to a cafe and everyone has their Macbook Pros, it feels like having a Ferrari in a room full of Mercedes. More powerful and sexier :D Q: Why do I need such a powerful laptop? A: Gaming of course. On top of that, I'm an engineer, so I do a lot of 3D modeling and number crunching. Also good for HD video editing (just got my hands on a Creative Vado HD).

Apple HQ / iMovie '09 Video Stabilization Test

chris.pirillo.com - I recently visited Apple's Headquarters in Cupertino, CA. I took my Creative Vado HD with me and shot this clip. Unfortunately, I didn't have any kind of stabilization mechanism, so it came out quite shaky. It made for a perfect sample to test against iMovie '09's new stabilization feature. I was quite impressed with the results. If you don't believe there's much of a difference, keep an eye on the tip of the green 1 throughout the duration of each version. The panning is much more smooth after the effect is applied. I uploaded this video directly through iMovie '09 and am not too pleased with how it looks here on YouTube. I decided to export the video with default Apple TV settings and upload the same test - since iMovie '09 does not support YouTube HD export options.
